Ron Duguay was drafted 13th overall in the 1977 NHL Entry Draft by the New York Rangers. In his rookie season with the Rangers Duguay netted 20 goals and assisted on 20 others in the 1977-78 season. Just one year later the team led by the likes of 37-year-old Phil Esposito advanced to the Stanley Cup finals where they lost in five games to the powerhouse Montreal Canadiens. The Buffalo Sabres drafted Ryan Miller in 1999 using the 138th overall pick to secure the services of the talented young goaltender. Miller made his NHL debut on November 19 2002 when the Sabres met the New Jersey Devils at Continental Airlines Arena and he spent the next few seasons playing for both the Sabres and their AHL affiliate in Rochester. By 2005 Miller was the Sabres’ starting goalie and that year he led the team to a winning season and also the playoffs. Miller won 40 games in 2006 and once again took the Sabres into the playoffs. Ryan Miller has hand signed this 16×20 photograph of him making a stick save against Sean Avery of the New York Rangers during Game Three of the 2007 Eastern Conference Semifinals on April 29 2007 at Madison Square Garden. Carolina Hurricanes goalie Cam Ward had a heck of a rookie season. In 2005 the young backup to Martin Gerber was called upon to stand between the pipes when Gerber went down with an injury. Gerber performed well in the regular season but really turned his game up a notch in the playoffs after stepping in for the struggling Gerber. Ward led the Hurricanes to series wins against the Canadians Devils Sabres and Oilers on the way to lifting the Stanley Cup. Ward earned himself the Conn Smythe (MVP) Award for his efforts. He compiled a 30-21-6 during the 2006-2007 season but the Hurricanes failed to reach the playoffs.
